Paragliding Astanmarg: There’s a new buzz in town – a new place of adventure to tick off your to-do list. If you are planning to visit Jammu and Kashmir, a new activity can now be added to your itinerary. One of the finest offbeat tourist destinations in Kashmir, Astanmarg is a mesmerizing green grassland encircled by the Zabarwan mountain range. Located on the outskirts of Srinagar, it is about 20 km from the city. A treat for sore eyes, one can witness a beautiful panoramic view of the city from here. How to reach the top of Astanmarg?

Tourists can book the ride online and show up at Harwan Garden. It is a 15-minute drive from Harwan to Astanmarg, perched at 7400 feet. It is a free flight that tourists can enjoy. Apart from this, there are also beautiful trails and hikes leading to Astanmarg. Under clear skies, one can catch a glimpse of the panoramic view of Dal Lake, Nishat Gardens and Shalimar while ascending. Paragliding starts from the top of Astanmarg to the ground of Chandpora. Before the start of the activity, experts will inform you about the equipment and the safety instructions, after which the gliders can perform a flight of approximately 12 to 15 minutes. Tourists can prepare for an adrenaline rush as this descent from the mountain will cover a drop of 2000 feet.

Gliders can take in serene views overlooking Dal Lake, Shalimar Gardens, Dachigam National Park, and Mughal Gardens. The landing point is Chandpora, Srinagar which is situated at 5330 feet. It’s a once in a lifetime experience that you can’t afford to miss.

A few tips to keep in mind:

  • If you are planning a hike, try to start it in the morning to avoid any sort of rush when you reach the top. The added bonus is that you can enjoy the morning views!
  • Try to hire a driver who is familiar with the terrain, roads and nearby areas to save time and not get lost. Road connectivity is not the best there.
  • If you like adventure sports, this one is for you. Other sports like mountain biking, hiking, cycling trail to Dara are other activities also available nearby.
