USC DL coach Shaun Nua on Korey Foreman: ‘Very good, but…’

Former Michigan coach Shaun Nua joined the USC staff as defensive line coach in January 2022. Nua, 40, inherits a new group of defensive players this spring, which includes the top rookie of 2021 Korey’s Foreman.

Nua spoke to reporters Thursday afternoon after USC’s second spring football practice. The former Super Bowl-winning defensive end shared his first impressions of his squad.

“I really like the band. They’re a bunch of hungry young men and they just keep showing up. So it’s been really, really fun working with them. You can tell they want to be great. We still have to work on some stuff, but I can’t wait to put the pads on to really find out.”

Nua also spoke about the potential of rookie Korey Foreman. Foreman saw action in 11 games last season and recorded 11 tackles, including 3.5 for 8-yard losses (with 2.5 sacks for 7 yards).

“He’s an explosive athlete. Very, very talented, but we have to get him back to good health. He has to be healthy, consistent and on the pitch,” Nua said. “He’s got talent, but we all know that’s only half the story.”

USC football will hold spring training from March 22 through April 21. The Trojans spring football game will take place on April 23 and will be broadcast LIVE on ESPN.
