George Katich, 99 of Follansbee, WV, died at 9:43 p.m. Wednesday, January 26, 2022 at Weirton Medical Center, Weirton, WV.

George was born on April 10, 1922 in Steubenville, OH. He was the son of the late Sava and Sophie (Burda) Katich.

George was a graduate of Steubenville High School. He continued to proudly serve his country during World War II serving in the United States Army Air Corp as an aircraft repairman in the North African theater. George was part of the Great Generation. He retired after 40 years of service on the Wheeling Pittsburgh Steel Railroad. George will be remembered by many for his enjoyment of playing tennis with his wife, Martha, socializing with friends at the Serbian club, and his time at Beatty Park, both in Steubenville, OH; but above all, being a helping hand for his family, from his parents and sisters to his wife, always fixing things and instilling that skill and knowledge in his son.

In addition to his parents, George was predeceased by his wife, Marth (Kaschak) Katich, a son, Gary “Beautiful” Katich and four siblings, John Katich, Mildred Pompa, Mary Balkun and Katherine Farmer.

George is survived by his son, George Katich of Denver, CO and several nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will be received Monday, January 31, 2022 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at James Funeral Home, Follansbee, WV (304) 527-1717.

The salute will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 1, 2022 at the Highland Hills Memorial Garden, Follansbee, WV where he will be buried next to his wife, Martha, conducted by the U.S. Army and Ohio Valley Veterans Memorial Team.
